When I first got started in network marketing my upline (and now dear friend) Danielle shared the story “Three Feet From Gold.” It’s just a short excerpt from Napoleon Hill’s classic Think and Grow Rich, but it has stuck with me all these years.

A conversation with one of my newest business partners reminded me of the story… and since not everyone has such an incredible upline as I do (thank you Danielle), I thought I would share the story, in hopes that if you’re struggling it will help you the way it helped me.

Will You Be Defeated?

You are the only person who can answer that question. Do you have the belief in yourself and the sheer determination to get past any obstacle? Do you ask for help when you need it? Are you spending time each day on developing your personal skillset? Are you modeling your daily actions on those of someone who already has the success you want?

This isn’t just a network marketing thing my friends –  Successful people in every industry will tell you that determination, personal development and a consistent daily action plan are key to stepping over the seemingly insurmountable hurdles that stop almost everyone else.

Before you quit, ask yourself honestly – are you “three feet from gold?” Chances are you’re almost there, but you’ll never know unless you stay the course.

I sincerely hope this story can help you in some small way. And if you’re a big-dog who doesn’t need anecdotal stories to stay strong in times of doubt, share this with someone who does.  It might be all they need to get past their fault line to find gold on the other side.

Most people think that to improve website ranking you have pay a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) specialist, and then wait six weeks to see any progress.

When I first heard about this trick, I thought it was too good to be true – but was then amazed when my Alexa Rank dropped almost a million points… from more than 2 million to just over 1 million in a matter of weeks.

Step 1: Build an Alexa Widget for your site.

It’s easy to do, just enter your domain (www.yourdomain.com) and click the “Build Widget” button.

Step 2: Copy the code that Alexa generates

Step 3: Add the code to your website.

If you’re using a WordPress website, this is ultra easy. Just navigate to Widgets (in the Appearance menu), drag and drop a Text widget to one of your sidebars, paste in the code and click Save. (If you’re not using a WordPress site, drop the code between the <head> tags on your homepage).

That’s it… now just watch your website rank dramatically improve over the next few weeks

“Can I be successful with the Isagenix business?” I get asked that all the time so I thought there might be others out there asking the same question.

There are only a couple of reasons you could have ended up here.

1. You are an Isagenix Associate, and want to take your business to the next level, or;

2. You are considering the Isagenix Business Opportunity and want to know more before you begin.

Either way you’ve come to the right place, so grab a drink, relax and enjoy the information.

First of all, this is not going to be a  review of the Isagenix products or compensation plan (although both are exceptional). You can find that information on the Isagenix website and I encourage you to do so if you haven’t already.

Instead I would like to focus on how the Isagenix business can impact you personally, based on what I have seen first-hand while building my own Isagenix business over the past three years. Here are answers to the top three questions I always get asked about the Isagenix Business.

“Will I Make Money In The Isagenix Business?”

That is completely dependant on you, and the actions you take. There is unlimited potential in the compensation plan, however, results come to those who actively work their business. You can make a lot of money with Isagenix, even on a part time basis (5-10hrs per week), so long as you are are taking consistent action and using your time wisely.

It’s important to understand how money is made with your Isagenix business – product has to move. That means that to make money you’re going to have to learn how to move it… through retail sales, and recruiting. This might mean you need to learn some new skills; recruiting, marketing, calling leads etc.

The great thing about this business is that you don’t necessarily have to be great at every single thing – your Isagenix team will likely have a wide range of expertise. Get to know your team and their strengths, and then leverage those. Together you’ll be much more successful than if you work on your own.

Every business is going to have a learning curve… embrace it and learn to be a great marketer, sponsor or leader and over time both you and your team will become more successful. I think it’s important to note that your team will do as you do; if you show them that you are getting on training calls and taking your business seriously, they will too.

“How Much Money Will I Make With My Isagenix Business?”

Again, this is largely dependant on your actions and the actions of your downline. You don’t actually need tens of thousands of people in your Isagenix business to get a full-time paycheck. What you need are people who order consistently every month. If you keep that in mind when you’re sponsoring new distributors and selling to new customers, then it only makes sense you want them to have a great experience with Isagenix right away.

If you can create a good experience for new people, it’s likely they will stay on the products and continue to order, paying you long into the future. Stay in touch with and encourage everyone who you introduce to the company and you’ll be securing a residual income based on happy repeat customers.

“Is There Anyone Who Doesn’t Make Money With The Isagenix Business?”

Yes. Just as with every business, there are people who will excel and people who will fail. Failure though, almost always comes as a result of quitting. Believe me, I’ve had my wall-kicking moments… team members will drop off their autoship, and customers will occasionally return product without even trying it.

But if you make a decision – I mean really make a decision – that you are going to be successful with your Isagenix business, then you will become an unstoppable force and nothing will keep you from success. Ups and downs are inevitable in any business, particularly when you’re just getting started. But stick with it, find a good mentor, and you have an opportunity to create an incredible income that will pay you, long into the future.

MLM prospecting is a hotly debated topic among network marketers. What is the best way to prospect? Is old-school, belly-to-belly, three-foot-rule style prospecting the way to go? Or is new-school – attraction marketing and lead generation more effective for building a large organization quickly?

Let’s Break MLM Prospecting Down

Prospecting is literally “the search for precious metals or stones, a physical labor, involving traversing, panning, sifting and looking for signs of mineralization.” MLM Prospecting is very similar; it is the search for precious people – you’re literally traversing, panning, sifting and looking for signs of a good business partner.

There are lots of ways to go about your MLM prospecting, just as there were during the gold rush. The vast majority of prospectors headed out with a pick and shovel and a gold pan and went to work. These small-scale operations were at times successful – an educated guess and a little luck could definitely pay off. For the most part though, success was limited. There’s only so much ground you can cover on your own with a pick and shovel.

Think of this method as your old-school MLM prospecting method. You head out, equipped with business cards, pamphlets and CDs, determined to share your opportunity with anyone who comes within three feet and has a heart beat. You approach people, hand out your pamphlets, pitch your business, and sift for possible business partners or product users, and of the 30 people you talk to that day, three sign up. Great success right?! Hmmm… let’s look a little closer.

The Problem with Old-School MLM Prospecting

First of all I was being generous with the numbers – most marketers can’t speak with anywhere near 30 people a day. Most accountability calls with top marketers only require three looks a day, and even that is a stretch for most people. I also gave a signup ratio of 1 in 10… that’s extremely high for our industry and it’s estimated that 4% industry-wide is closer to accurate.

At that rate, if you prospect every day for 30 days, you would get 3.6 new signups – we’ll round up and say 4. Still, one a week isn’t bad. But then why aren’t more people successful with this form of MLM prospecting?

Rejection

It’s sad but true – people don’t like being “sold.” Just think about your own reaction when a telemarketer calls, or someone shows up to “lock in your energy costs.” You don’t like it do you? And 9 times out of ten you’ll do whatever you have to do to avoid the situation all together. And when you can’t you either hang up, or listen politely until you can make an excuse to get back to what you were doing before the uninvited interruption. And all the while there is a feeling of tension building inside of you… “What are they trying to sell me now?”

You don’t like being pitched and neither does anyone else. And the truth is, not everyone is as polite as you and I are about saying no. I don’t care how thick your skin is, getting hung up on and doors slammed in your face sucks… I know, I’ve had it done to me… lots.

Does Old School MLM Prospecting Work?

Apparently it does, for about 3% of people. I’m not going to tell you not to use these methods – there are lots of very successful marketers who swear by it. But if this is going to be your strategy I highly recommend growing a thick skin – you’re going to need it.

New School MLM Prospecting – What’s the Difference?

Back to our gold prospecting analogy – let’s pretend that instead of picks, shovels and a gold pan you head out with a metal detector and a magnetic surveying device. You’d do a lot less digging initially, but you’d also save yourself a lot of time digging in the wrong places. Now let’s say you bring in an excavator – you get a lot more digging done, a lot more quickly right? It’s still all you – it’s just you on steroids.

That’s what attraction marketing, MLM advertising, lead generation and automatic email campaigns do for your MLM prospecting. It can still all be done by one person, you can just leverage technologically advanced tools to make your prospecting task easier, faster, more effective.

The New-School Edge:  ZERO REJECTION

What is it that makes new-school MLM prospecting so attractive?  A complete lack of rejection. Seriously. If you do this right, the only people you’ll ever be in touch with are people who have specifically requested information from you. The people who don’t want what you have to offer will either not request information in the first place, or they will unsubscribe from your list. But never will they question why you’re calling them… they know who you are, and what you do long before the initial conversation.

New School MLM Prospecting by the Numbers

Using the same 4% sign up rate, let’s look at how the numbers stack up. A well-crafted attraction marketing system can bring in unlimited leads – literally, unlimited. But for our purposes, let’s be conservative and say 10 leads per day. Over 30 days that amounts to 300 leads and translates to 12 signups. Over a 1-year period that equates to 144 new distributors in your business, as opposed to old-school methods that come in at 48 new signups per year.

So Who Wins? Old-School or New-School MLM Prospecting?

In my humble opinion, old-school marketing just doesn’t make sense, any more than heading off into the mountains with a pick and a gold pan. That’s not to say it doesn’t work, just that as technology evolves there are faster, easier ways of accomplishing the same outcome.

Learning how to prospect either way involves a learning curve – you just have to decide where you want to spend your time. Are you going to learn how to prospect like its 1842 or are you going to harness the power of the technology that is right at your fingertips?

Don Failla is an MLM guru made famous as the author of several successful books on MLM. He and his wife Nancy have travelled extensively, teaching their MLM methodology all over the world. Their I Own My Life pins can be found on the lapels of distributors in just about every MLM company.

Don Failla has made a fortune selling the MLM dream for more than 40 years, having sold more than 4.5 million copies of their books in 23 languages. Their most popular book, “The 45 Second Presentation that Will Change Your Life” has sold millions of copies the world over. It’s easy to understand why it’s so popular among networkers; the Faillas claim its the exact blueprint they used to create a downline of more than 750,000 people in less than 12 years.

But does Don Failla’s MLM methodology allow average people to build huge network marketing organizations, or has he made a fortune peddling out-dated tactics not fit for the 21st century?

Absolutely his methods work. I personally know one of the top income earners in my company swears by it, and sharing Don Failla’s books has brought him and his team a lot of success. Don has himself built a massive downline and has taught many people how to do the same. In The 45 Second Presentation he gives his “10 napkin presentations” which are designed to help even the greenest network marketers to easily convey the concept of mlm. The presentations as laid out in the book are astoundingly simple, and I personally recommend giving one to each of your new distributors when they first get started.

While the book is a simple way to explain network marketing, it falls short when it comes to prospecting. Who are you going to present the information to? Aunt Sue? Cousin Joe? Most serious network marketers will tell you they talk to 20 people a day… at that rate, most people will plow through their friends and family list in under 2 weeks. However there is no in-depth discussion of lead generation in his books, so you’re on your own as far as figuring out who to talk to.

In closing Don Failla is the real deal; his books provide value to network marketers all over the world, teaching them how to present the MLM business model. But since he doesn’t adequately address the issue of finding new people to talk to you’ll need to look elsewhere for that information.

Melaleuca Review
Is Melaleuca a good business opportunity? As an active network marketer I am often approached by distributors for this company. I was recently pitched by someone I know who and decided to take a closer look. I am not involved with the company but would like to give you my unbiased review of the Melaleuca business opportunity.

There are a number of areas that need to be looked at in order to give a fair evaluation of the company. First, Melaleuca was founded in 1985. There are some benefits to getting started with a company that’s been around for a while – the company is stable and has a long-standing profit record. In fact, they have appeared on Inc 500’s list of fastest growing privately held companies in the United States for five consecutive years. Melaleuca Review

There is no question that their products are of considerable quality – they are backed by solid scientific research and are time-tested. The product line is varied, giving customers an opportunity to purchase all natural, safe products for their home. As a Melaleuca preferred customer you get a 30-40% discount off of the product price, making many of the products cheaper than grocery and drugstore brands.

The website, which I have only experienced as a Guest, seems fairly user friendly and easy to navigate. The prices are clearly marked and they also have the option to compare prices with similar drugstore variety products.

The compensation plan is, in my opinion, mediocre. Melaleuca claims not to be a multi-level marketing company and instead uses their “Direct to Consumer Marketing “ lingo. It does however follow the MLM model, and like any MLM company you need to have a significant number of customers and distributors to make a full-time income with the company. Because it only pays to seven levels of depth you’ll need to continue to personally sponsor many front line reps in order to create a good income. (I personally prefer a compensation plan that pays unlimited depth as I currently get paid for customers on my 300^th level). Melaleuca Review

Melaleuca has moved their sales presentation to an online format, but you have to purchase additional presentation software to use it. Also, you have to learn the presentation and give it one-on-one at a pre-scheduled time (i.e. you can’t send people to the presentation and get back to them later), which compromises your ability to automate your marketing systems, something I believe is key if you are truly hoping to achieve “freedom” (without automation you still have a JOB in my opinion). Also noteworthy, particularly for the online marketer – people can’t sign up on their own through an affiliate link or replicated website which entirely elminates the chance of an auto-pilot sign up.Melaleuca Review

I personally think Melaleuca has great products and is an opportunity for people to save money on products they are already going to buy. There is definitely money to be made with Melaleuca, but you’ll have to decide for yourself whether it is the right opportunity for you. Body By Vi Scam
A few months ago I got a call from a woman in California who wanted me to look at an opportunity called Body By Vi. This didn’t surprise me at all – I get pitched a new company every week. Then I got an email from a guy in Ontario… Body By Vi was just launching in Canada and he wanted me to join his team. Totally fine – it’s nice that other marketers think I’d be an asset, and I’m glad their company is doing well – there’s lots of business to go around. Body by Vi Scam

But then I received an email from a Body By Vi distributor that compared Isagenix vs Body By Vi (among other health products) in a side-by-side comparison. This document (see below) was put together by Visalus Sciences’ (the company that owns Body By Vi) Corporate Marketing Office that shows comparison of the nutritional values of the products. After seeing this disgrace of a marketing ploy I can tell you for sure that I will not be promoting these products. You’ll see why below…

Is There a Body By Vi Scam?

I wouldn’t go that far. I actually have no doubt there are good things about their products… it’s just unfortunate that instead of highlighting their strong points, their marketing department chose to make ridiculous, misleading comparisions between the Body By Vi Shakes and popular competitor products, including Isagenix shakes. body by vi scam

Here are just a few of the obvious problems with their data:

Bogus Comparision #1: Body By Vi Shakes have Less Calories than Isagenix Shakes (Or Any Other Meal Replacement Shake)

In this comparison the Body By Vi shake (or Vi-Shape) is presented without added milk, which is how you must consume it in order for it to be a meal replacement, thus this shake only appears to have 90 cal (which does not provide enough calories to be categorized as a Meal Replacement unless mixed with Milk or Soy Milk).

Isagenix shakes (and many of the other shakes being compared) are stand-alone meal replacements… just add water. So, their comparison is misleading to say the least.

Their product as listed would put people on a very low calorie intake (180 kcal!). The company even says on it’s website the shake can be mixed in water as a “healthy snack” but must be mixed in milk or soy milk to be a meal replacement.

Why then do they not list the meal replacement value when they are clearly comparing their product against other meal replacements?

Bogus Comparision #2: Body By Vi Shakes Have Less Fat Than Isagenix Shakes (Or Any Other Meal Replacement Shake)

The comparision shows that Body By Vi shakes have 1 g of fat compared with 5g in an Isagenix shake.  Once again, in this comparison the Body By Vi Shake is presented without milk (which it needs to be a true meal replacement). Every other meal replacement shake listed has more fat because they are providing their “prepared” values. Body by Vi is the only one on the list that isn’t listed this way… strange, but it sure makes their numbers look good!

Bogus Comparision #3: Body By Vi Shakes Have Less Carbohydrates Than Isagenix Shakes (Or Any Other Meal Replacement Shake)

In the comparison they claim only 7 grams of carbohydrate per Body By Vi Shake as compared to 28 grams in an Isagenix shake.

WOAH… a 21 gram difference? Well here’s the real story: The addition of milk (as suggested by the company but not included in the comparison) would add 12 grams to that figure, bringing the actual carbohydrates in the Body by Vi Shake to 19 grams.

And it would stand to reason that they still have less carbs than Isagenix; Body By Vi shakes contain artificial sweeteners (Sucralose) and that does not meet our requirement of natural ingredients. I could tell you all about why artificial sweetners shouldn’t be in health products but I digress.

Is Body By Vi A Scam? Here’s My Conclusion…

I have never written a negative review on any other network marketing company, because for the most part they provide great products and do so with integrity. And like I said at the beginning of this post, I have no doubt the Body By Vi products are good.

But when it comes to integrity in advertising I personally believe they have crossed a line. Every other company they compared themselves to publishes their “prepared” data… as in, they tell you the nutritional value of what you’re putting in your mouth, not what’s hanging out in a canister on the shelf. Unless you’re going to eat the powder dry, then these numbers don’t apply to you.

Publishing misleading data to convince health conscious consumers to buy your product is shady… what more can I say.

If you’re here because you’re searching for a weight loss or health solution I would urge you to do your due diligence and actually find out what’s in the products, as opposed to making a choice out of an obviously biased biased marketing tactic. (I would have posted the ingredients for Body By Vi Shakes as well but I couldn’t find that information readily available on their website… also strange for a company selling health products).

I just think people deserve to be made aware that what you see isn’t always what you get in advertising.

Before all the Body By Vi reps start making negative comments, I would ask that you look at this objectively… If you want to compare your meal replacement against other meal replacements, you need to give the value of your product as it would be consumed as a meal replacement, not as a snack. “Apples to apples” as the saying goes.

If you love your company and this industry, let your company know that you would like this sort of misleading advertising to be stopped. I’m sure your products are good enough to sell themselves without using these bogus comparisons.

Don’t even consider placing an ad or a link to your site if you don’t have this in place. Now that you have a professional funnel in place (because this part literally takes 10 minutes with MLSP), you can start marketing. Thanks to sites like Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter, MLM advertising on the internet can be done for free, which is great if you’re on a budget.

The key here is FOCUS; pick two or three sites and get really good at marketing on those sites. Each has a number of ways to advertise your MLM by posting links to your marketing funnel. One of my personal favorites is Facebook – you can get a TON of free traffic to your site just by joining a few groups and posting links in a few key places… post a few links every day and watch the leads roll in. It’s actually that simple.

Online MLM advertising doesn’t have to be painful, time consuming or expensive. You just need to have a solid marketing funnel in place – then you can start advertising like crazy for free. This is just a numbers game after all, and with billions of potential customers right at your finger tips, why would you do it any other way?!
