In this series we’ll be looking at… you guessed it… autoresponders and lead capture pages!
We’re going to put the cart before the horse a little and talk about lead capture pages first, because let’s face it – they’re sexier, and a lot more fun.
The trouble is, they all come with some great benefits, as well as some potential issues… so it can be hard to figure out which one is right for you.
Right now I’m using 3 different types of capture pages (which is completely unnecessary), and each has pros and cons that determine which makes the most sense for you…
Company Lead Capture Pages
If you’re a distributor for a network marketing or direct selling company that has kept up with technology, they will likely have some kind of lead capture system available.
Pros - it might be free (although many have a monthly fee for use), and it will be very company specific.
Cons - everyone in the company is using it and opt in rates drop quickly when your market has seen the same offer often. They are also usually covered in company branding… if people know what they’re opting into before they opt in… why would they bother?
NOTE: I DO NOT use my company’s lead capture pages and I don’t usually recommend it, even if it’s free.
Third-Party Company Specific Lead Capture Page System
There are third parties whose business model is to create and sell lead generation systems for MLM or direct selling companies. An example would be Simple2Advertise for Empower Network.
Pros - the pages are stand-alone – no additional hosting required. They are very beautiful, and mobile friendly. The sales copy is professionally written and they have built-in sales pages (the page your prospects are redirected to after opting in).
Cons - they are usually static pages, meaning you can’t customize them at all. So if you’re not happy with the wording… too bad. Many other distributors will also use the same pages, which will hurt opt in rates over time. Moderate monthly cost.
WordPress Plugin/Theme Lead Capture Pages
Pros - Easy to install, and fairly easy to use - pages are beautiful and mobile responsive. Reasonable one-time cost.
Cons – It’s not stand-alone… you need your own self-hosted WordPress site to use them. Because it’s built on WordPress there can be conflicts with other plugins and themes, which can be a nightmare if you don’t know what you’re doing. You have to write your own headlines and calls to action (sales copy). You also have to create your own sales page.
Stand-Alone Lead Page Creator
Pros - They are super easy to use and pages can be created in minutes. They are mobile friendly and very beautifully designed. Just about every element can be edited, allowing you to create completely unique offers as often as you want
Cons - You need to write your own copy and create your own sales page (can be done inside the system). Moderate monthly cost.
This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but these are the lead capture page creators I see being used most often (and also the ones I use myself).
How Do You Choose The Right Lead Capture Page System For Your Personal Needs and Skill Level?
If I were starting from scratch, I would want something that is “turn-key,” meaning all the sales copy is pre-written and the sales page is done-for-you, like you get with Simple2Advertise. That way you can just grab your link and start marketing.
If you have a little more experience and are not intimidated by writing your own copy, then a stand-alone lead capture page creator would be your best bet. If you’re great with WordPress you may find OptimizePress is the way to go.
But if you’re creative and want something point and click simple, where you can create beautiful lead capture pages in minutes, then LeadPages is hands down your best bet.
