So I went almost an entire week without internet, and then my sweetie says “why don’t you tether your computer to your BlackBerry.” While I knew this was possible, I’d never really looked into it… turns out that most providers charge you a monthly fee for the service, and my particular carrier doesn’t even offer it.
Thankfully there are third-party options available to turn your BlackBerry into a reasonably high-speed modem. I did a SpeedTest with mine and came up just under 1Mbps, but that will vary from carrier to carrier.
Here are the instructions to do it… I’d rate this a skill level 2 and it takes less than 10 minutes.
Step 1: Go to the Tether Download Site
Step 2: Follow the instructions on that page to install… it is incredibly straight forward and you’ll be surfing in minutes.
A WORD OF CAUTION: Make sure you have an unlimited data plan or you’ll be looking at a hefty phone bill. Also, take a look at the Disclaimer in their policy before you download.
Keep in mind this is only a 7-day free trial. After that it’s $50 (no monthy fee, just $50 and you’re good to go). For me it’s totally worth it… I’m already envisioning working by the pool this summer. Thank heaven for techology and home based business!
